Videos
Draft - This video started it all for me. Until 2010, I had no way to access the outdoors. The DRAFT video introduced me to the Segway® with a seat.
Mount Mitchell - Wheel chair use. Normally I would use the Segway®, but thought the trail was gradual … not quite!
Mount Jefferson - Note the first person I pass on my right is a stroke victim. We spent half an hour talking about the outdoors and disabilities.
Hanging Rock - Demonstrates how steps are a barrier to people using canes, chairs, crutches, etc.
Pilot Mountain - Slope and cross-slope problems.
Morrow Mountain -Multi-use. Using horse trails to access the outdoors.
Fort Macon - Beach Access.
Cumberland Island - Elevator and ferry access.
Caw Caw County Park - South Carolina. Discussion of outdoor accessible trails and issues. Caw Caw took my recommendations for fixing some of the trial. The EASY fixes turned out really well- Thank you. Bridge, Root Mine Field repairs.
Beachwalker - County Park, SC. Access to the beach on beach mats.

(HESS) The Citadel Military College Spring 2012 (PDF)
Spring presentation to The Citadel Military College on Disabilities, Access and Knowledge. I have included an informative info-graphic on disabilities. The presentation also reviews three key aspects of access; if you can’t roll, is not communicated in three ways, and can not be reached, then its not accessible. We discuss silent sports versus power sports especially as they relate to injury and age. Finally, I conclude with how to gather knowledge of patients capabilities and injuries and my own experiences with failing to put my own preformed judgments aside before I know the facts. If you have any questions, please contact me.
